Does your job involve encouraging farmers to implement new practices or technologies on their farms? Do you want to gain new skills and techniques to add to your extension toolkit to support on-farm adoption?
The Building Future Extension Leaders program is modelled on, and value adds to, the successful Building Future Extension Leaders program delivered in Western Australia during 2018/19. It incorporates aspects from the extension capacity building project administered by the Ag Excellence Alliance Inc in South Australia through the Sustainable Ag Grants in 2016, and parts from the from the innovative New Zealand Red Meat Profit Partnership extension program.
Through a series of workshops (2 x 2 days) and webinars (2) from July - November 2019 in Adelaide, you will increase your skills and knowledge in extension theory and practice, extension program design, adult learning techniques and facilitation, and evaluation and monitoring.
The program is open to program managers and extension deliverers in NRM organisations, grower groups and private extension providers. It will provide participants with the skills and knowledge to;
- Understand farmer decisions and perspective;
- Understand the range of barriers to adoption across their target audience;
- Undertake effective planning and delivery of extension programs; and
- Incorporate monitoring, review and redesign at the beginning and throughout the project.
It will build your confidence in leading change throughout your industry by developing your skills and confidence in delivering on farm extension and change management programs. These skills will be enhanced through the development of an extension program to be delivered over the course of the project, and through the support of one-on-one coaching with the presenters. You will develop valuable state-wide networks that will support your current programs and future careers.
We promise that the program will be hands on, with lots of practical activities, and presented by facilitators Danielle England, Jeanette Long and Jeanette Gellard; all with an extensive amount of valuable experience.
The program is supported through funding from the Australian Government's National Landcare Program.
